So many people rely on the Internet for their daily errands that the average person's Internet usage has increased in the past few years. Because of this dependence, businesses have had to focus the majority of their attention on Internet marketing. There have been studies done that show companies that people use the Internet for information before other traditional mediums. Because of this, companies have had to come up with ways to reach that online customer base. Simply put, this type of marketing is any aspect of promoting products or services online. Both small and large companies can use this because people love having a variety of services from which to choose.

When Internet marketing first began, it was simply called Internet marketing because people were not sure how well it would take off. Companies were hesitant to spend much of their marketing budget online because they thought it would be a waste. This all changed when more and more people started using the Internet. Nowadays, companies spend nearly all their budgeting money on this type of marketing. Companies send out e-mails promotions instead of the traditional mass mailers. These same companies spend more money on banner advertisements online than on billboards.

Although Internet marketing is arguably the most popular form of marketing these days, it probably will not get to the stage where it is the only form of marketing. It will be used more, but companies still will use the traditional way a little bit. There actually are thousands of companies that help businesses market their products online. This type of marketing has become so popular that it is the first type of marketing thought of for many people. Even small businesses can use Internet marketing. Obviously they do not spend as much money as the larger companies, but they have Web sites they use for marketing.

Internet marketing has become so widespread among the business world that most businesses cannot function without having a Web site. When people hear about a new business, they automatically ask for the Web site because they will get more information about the business there. They do not even take the time to listen to what the company is about. Because it is so common to act this way, it is thoughtless for companies not to use Internet for their marketing. For many businesses, large and small, Internet marketing is the only marketing they use.
